12 Movie Franchises That Need To Take A Break
8. X-Men
To be clear, we're only really talking about the "proper" X-Men movies here, not the Deadpool films, which are doing just fine.
The mainline X-Men franchise has always been pretty inconsistent, but with X-Men: Apocalypse disappointing everyone while the upcoming Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants are plagued with post-production woes, it really feels like time to wrap things up.
Helpfully, fate actually seems to be lending a hand here, as the Disney-Fox merger should effectively bring the X-Men franchise as we know it to an end, likely leading to the iconic heroes being fully rebooted for the Marvel Cinematic Universe a few years from now.
Deadpool is the only current property likely to survive the merger in tact, and that's just as well. The core X-Men movies are starting to feel like more of the tired same by this point, and keeping both Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg away from them in the future seems like a smart idea for many reasons.
