12 Movie Moments Everyone Was Waiting For (That Never Happened)

2. For Ben Kingsley To Reveal That He Actually Was The Mandarin After All, You Silly Billy - Iron Man 3

Iron Man was a lot more controversial than it had any right to be, mainly thanks to the fact that writer/director Shane Black decided to take Tony Stark's arch-villain, The Mandarin, into uncharted waters. Brave decision, but one that didn't really pay off in the long run in the eyes of Marvel fans: half way through the flick, it's revealed that Ben Kingsley's theatrical, badass Mandarin is just an actor from Croydon, England called Trevor Slattery, and Guy Pearce's generic villain - Aldrich Killian - is the true Mandarin, using the other as a form of decoy. Now, whether or not you care or you think that a Mandarin is a type or orange or a Chinese language (what are you doing on this website?), there was a part of many movie-goers that clung to the idea that, "no, this is just a joke, and it will totally turn out that Ben Kingsley was the Mandarin all along... haha, just a little joke." Alas, it turned out that Killian genuinely was being poised as the Mandarin because the writers had some concerns over the potentially racist portrait of the character, and everyone loves Guy Pearce, don't they? Not enough, apparently.
