4. Jupiter Ascending Is The Year's Biggest Box Office Bomb
It impresses me that the Wachowski siblings were given another exorbitant budget for their latest project, Jupiter Ascending, given that their last two big-budget sci-fi flicks, Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas, were total duds at the box office. More to the point, Racer and Atlas were at least based on popular source materials, whereas Jupiter is an entirely new creation from the Wachowskis, and therefore doesn't have any installed fanbase whatsoever. They're clearly hoping that attaching hot young stars Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum will save them, but the biggest fans of these sorts of actors stereotypically don't really go for sci-fi, so it's likely a miscalculation from a marketing perspective. Don't get me wrong, the film looks crazy in a "I'm going to have no idea what's going on" sort of way, but if the film is a critical success and manages to even double its budget, it would be nothing short of a miracle.
