12 Movie Predictions For 2014

2. Sin City: A Dame To Kill For Is A Pale Shadow Of The Original

I still can't believe this movie is actually happening, given how long it's been gestating since the original 2005 adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel series. Robert Rodriguez has struggled for years to get the project off the ground, which is surprising considering the first movie made 4x its budget back (not bad at all for an R-rated movie), and even when it was finally announced that filming had started, the hype machine on this one still stayed pretty low. The problem is probably that it's been almost a decade since the first film, and there's just not the large mainstream audience for the film as there was for, say, the decade-later Anchorman sequel. Even looking at the film on its own merits though, while the Ava Lord arc is one of Sin City's finest moments in comic book form, Frank Miller will be contributing two original stories to the movie, a major wild card which could totally go either way. I suspect Rodriguez will pull a Kick-Ass 2 and it'll be lesser in every way.
