1. Inherent Vice, Interstellar, Boyhood & Gone Girl Lead The Oscar Race
The 2014 Academy Award haven't even been announced yet, but already it's fun to talk about which films from this year might end up in the 2015 Academy Awards. Though the nominations won't be announced until next January, we'll pretty much know from the awards circuit which films are already leading the pack, and I suspect it will come down to these four films: Paul Thomas Anderson's pulpy crime comedy Inherent Vice, Christopher Nolan's sci-fi Interstellar, Richard Linklater's Boyhood (an epic drama filmed over the course of 12 years which has been earning rave reviews at Sundance) and David Fincher's adaptation of Gillian Flynn's mystery novel, Gone Girl. Of course, any of these four films could flop or lose momentum by the time nominations roll out, but they're all hugely anticipated movies from acclaimed directors, so it makes sense. More than anything, I hope the long-deserving Nolan finally gets a Best Director nomination. What are you anticipating in the year ahead for movies? Let me know in the comments!
