12 Movie Sequels That Luckily Didn't Happen
11. Batman Triumphant
Batman Triumphant was set to be the sequel to Batman and Robin. Originally titled Batman Unchained, it would star George Clooney, Chris O'Donnell and Alicia Silverstone from B&R, with Jack Nicholson returning as the Joker and Jeff Goldblum turning up as the Scarecrow.
Now, everyone remembers Batman and Robin. Partly because it remains one of worst superhero films ever made, and very nearly ruined Batman as a movie commodity. Director Joel Schumacher, who was also set to return for the sequel, and Clooney have on many occasions apologised for the film, but of course it's too late; the deed is done, and Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr Freeze is now a part of cinema history. Forever.
Batman Triumphant would have seen Scarecrow infect Batman with his infamous fear toxin and make the Joker come back as a hallucination in the hero's mind. Harley Quinn would also turn up, but she was set to be portrayed as Joker's daughter. Needles to say, the whole thing was scrapped after B&R was released. B&R was a critical and commercial failure, and George Clooney vowed never to return to the role.
The sequel was then scrapped and hasn't been revisited since, somewhat unsurprisingly. And because of Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy, audiences can rest assured they'll never have to endure it.
