12 Movie Sequels You Didn't Know Were Coming

It should probably come as little surprise that there is a new Minions movie in production, considering the staggering success of the original spin off movie. While Steve Carrell's legendary character Gru might have been missing, this didn't stop the 2015 film taking in over $1 Billion in spite of modest reviews and a modest $74 Million budget for animated features. With this in mind, it is more of a surprise that it has taken this long for a sequel to be produced.

The film was all set for a release this Northern summer, but the current world situation has seen its release delayed by a full year. Producers were obviously determined to maintain the Summer release date to maximise profits, but the 6 year gap between the original film and its sequel would surely make for some anxiety inside Universal Pictures HQ.

Pierre Coffin has once again returned as the 'voice' of the Minions, with Carrell returning in a more expansive role for Gru, in what appears to be as much of a Despicable Me prequel as a genuine sequel. While Gru's three adoptive children will not be present, it will be intriguing to see how the story places a focus on the titular Minions over the delightful menacing presence of Gru. One thing seems certain, which is that the film will be a box office smash once more.
