8. Treadstone

While there was some possibility that the Bourne Legacy might have killed the franchise built on the back of shaky cameras, Matt Damon and Robert Ludlum's source novels, its underwhelming performance was not enough to put a bullet in Bourne and we got another Damon-starring movie in 2016.

It might not have been the best of the series, but it made Universal more than $400m (over double its budget minus marketing costs) so there was clearly appetite for that world of espionage to continue. Universal obviously don't believe that film's box office haul was down solely to Damon though, because they now have spin-off show Treadstone set to air on USA Network in October.

Starring War Horse's Jeremy Irvine, the prequel series will tell "the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Operation Treadstone - a covert program that uses behaviour-modification protocol to turn recruits into nearly superhuman assassins. The first season follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously 'awakened' to resume their deadly missions."
