Cynical? Of course it is, but so is the casting of Sarah Michelle Gellar in the new Cruel Intentions TV show at NBC. The channel have ordered a pilot that would act as a sequel to the 1999 classic. The idea of bringing back Sarah Michelle Gellar seems to have been floated, with the show focusing on the 15 year old son of Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe) and Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon) in prep school. It's a mistake to do it as a sequel, given that Gellar's character Kathryn is ruined by the end of the original film, but if they can bring her back as a conniving villainess taking her nephew on the path to moral corruption.
