3. The Incredibles (2004)
Walt Disney PicturesOutside of the Toy Story franchise, it took a long time for Pixar to get around to developing sequels for their other properties. Given the billions generated by merchandising, Cars seemed like the obvious (and most cynical) first choice, albeit one that marked a critical low-point for the studio. Monsters University did manage to provide a worthy successor, and Finding Dory will hit theaters in 2016. However, the one sequel that fans have been clamoring for that isn't officially in development is The Incredibles. Regarded as one of Pixar's finest efforts, Brad Bird's superhero animation never loses sight of the studio's constant focus on storytelling and characters above all else, while also offering plenty of laughs, thrills, suspense and action-packed spectacle. Deftly blending the monotony of suburban life with spandex-clad superheroics, writer/director Bird's first movie in five years since the commercial failure of The Iron Giant would go on to earn over $630m at the box office. A sequel has been talked about ever since The Incredibles first hit theaters in 2004 and with Disney's acquisition of Pixar a couple of years later signaling a shift towards more sequels, speculation only grew. Brad Bird has stated on numerous occasions that he is willing to return for a sequel if the story is up to scratch. So far, the most concrete news came earlier this year when Disney chairman Bob Iger claimed the studio was working on a follow-up. Its looking increasingly likely, but not for a few more years at least.
