4. The Rundown (2003)
Universal PicturesThe Rundown is without a doubt one of the most underrated action movies of the 21st Century. Back when he was still billed as The Rock, Dwayne Johnson took one of his first starring roles in this hugely entertaining Brazilian-set buddy movie that underperformed at the box office. Perhaps the time is right for the self-proclaimed 'franchise Viagra' to reinvigorate one of his own. The movie opens with a passing-of-the-torch cameo from Arnold Schwarzenegger and as 'retrieval expert' Beck, Johnson shows the blend of physical prowess and comic timing that would eventually establish him as one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood. An old-school adventure, The Rundown features plenty of laughs and excitement, with excellent chemistry between Johnson and Seann William-Scott along with Christopher Walken in a scene-stealing supporting role. As mentioned previously, the movie was a box office disappointment and failed to recoup the $85m production budget. However, director Peter Berg recently revealed that he'd been in contact with Johnson over a potential sequel. With a director coming off the back of the successful Lone Survivor and 2013's highest-grossing actor in the lead role, there is a great chance that this long-awaited sequel could actually get made.
