Sometimes it's hard to pinpoint which characters in a movie adapted from a comic are original, or figures pulled from source material. In terms of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, the writing did a good job of sprinkling real characters from the comics and cartoons across the films, even if they weren't as on the nose as Bane or The Joker.

Even Roland Daggett (Ben Mendelsohn) is a character lifted from the cartoons, so it was a little surprise when the delightful Marion Cotillard was cast in the film as Wayne Ent. board member Miranda Tate.

Fans of the films were already sceptical before seeing TDKR; why would Christopher Nolan cast an actress as grand as Marion Cotillard for a completely unknown character? The reveal that Miranda Tate was actually Talia Al-Ghul all along was foreshadowed before the film's release.

Perhaps in hindsight, had no one known about the character of Talia it would have knocked us backwards to see the final act twist, but "Miranda" was so superfluous for two hours of the film, her character had to serve a purpose somewhere.

Granted, the Robin reveal of John Blake was equally as sweaty, but at least Blake stood up as his own character.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
