12 Movies In 2019 That Were Unfairly Hated
10. The Kitchen
Starring Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elisabeth Moss, The Kitchen brought to life the Vertigo comic mini series of the same name in 2019, and was released to mainly negative reviews. An incredibly weak score of just 23% is all the critics of Rotten Tomatoes were able to give it.
While there is seemingly a lot of debate over whether the performance of the three main stars helped or hurt the movie, one criticism that popped up on numerous occasions was regarding the so called 'girl power' and 'woke culture' aspect of the movie.
Adapted from a comic book from 2015, Andrea Berloff's movie shouldn't be shot down for bringing females to the forefront of a genre generally dominated by men. There were certainly problems with the movie, and it was far from perfect, but these kind of criticisms have nothing to do with the actual movie itself, rather the cultural impact it had, or at least tried to have, off screen.
