9. The Hunt

The Hunt 2012 Film Mads Mikkelsen
Nordisk Film

The Hunt stars the wickedly talented Mads Mikkelsen as Lucas, a kindergarten teacher whose life comes crashing down around his ears when he's wrongly accused of sexually assaulting one of his young pupils.

It doesn't sound like pleasant viewing, and it's not.

The Hunt is darkly engrossing to an almost ridiculous degree, with everything that can go wrong for Lucas happening onscreen, one thing after the next. He's attacked and shunned. His property is damaged. But for some reason, though it's uncomfortable to watch, you won't be able to look away.

You'll become so caught up in Lucas' plight, angered by the vendetta everybody has against him and upset that an innocent man's life can be ruined all because of a single, destructive lie, that it feels like you're being persecuted right along with him.

Plus, if you're looking for a more subdued Mikkelsen role rather than the more theatrical blockbuster performances he's been indulging in recently, The Hunt is well worth your time.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
