12 Movies You Probably Hated The First Time Round (But Loved The Second)
3. No Country For Old Men
The First Time: "I was really enjoying this movie until the protagonist suddenly dies off-screen, and then the movie ends without a proper conclusion as Tommy Lee Jones tells a friend about some dream he had. I don't get it." The Second Time: This is the Coen Brothers, remember. They're not exactly known for elaborate shoot-out set-pieces, but they are known for defying conventions and playing with audiences. In many respects, we should have seen it coming, but being aware of what the film's limitations (or simply its limits) are, it's a lot easier to enjoy this sparse and conversational near-masterpiece about contemporary rogues and the tired old coots who chase them. Plus, Javier Bardem's performance as Anton Chigurh is simply beyond reproach.
