12 Movies Where The Villain Emerges Victorious
3. Avengers: Infinity War
The big bad of the Avengers: Infinity War (as well as the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe) is Thanos the Mad Titan. Despite being a genocidal warlord, his homeworld was peaceful since his civilisation eradicated disease, war, and famine.
However, the plummeting death rate caused the population to soar. Within decades, the overpopulation caused the collapse of Titan, leaving Thanos as the planet's sole survivor. Traumatised by his experience, Thanos made a vow to himself that no other planet would share this fate.
He believed the most efficient way of preventing overpopulation was to collect the six Infinity Stones, which would endow him with godlike power. With a snap of his fingers, he could use the Stones to erase half of all life in the cosmos, automatically doubling the resources of every world.
Although the casual moviegoer assumed Thanos would fail, comic readers knew otherwise. Die-hard fans knew the mass-murdering alien successfully wiped out half the universe in the comic book that this film was adapted in so they weren't the slightest bit surprised to see Marvel's greatest heroes crumble to dust in the climax.
