After Amy learns her husband, Nick, is having an affair, she devises an overelaborate plan to frame him for her murder in order to destroy his life. She compiles a detailed diary where she writes false entries suggesting that Nick is preparing to kill her.

She then leaves him and hides out in the estate of Desi; a man who's been obsessed with Amy for years. After the media pastes Nick as a murderer, he appears on live-television and begs Amy to return - which she ultimately decides to do, either to spite him further or because she believes he still loves her.

To explain her absence over the last few weeks, Amy leaves clues to imply Desi kidnapped her and was preparing to murder her. She then slits his throat with a box-cutter in "self-defence" before returning back to her house, clearing Nick of all accusations.

Nick knows Amy manipulated him and promises to leave her. But when Amy tells him she will publicly announce that she is pregnant, Nick realises he can't leave her without destroying his reputation once more. Knowing that he can't outsmart his wife, Nick agrees to stay in their loveless marriage.
