The Event Horizon is a spaceship that travels through the cosmos using wormholes. After being missing for years, the ship's distress signal is detected, causing a rescue team to be dispatched, led by Captain Miller and accompanied by the Event Horizon's designer, Dr. Weir.

After landing on the enigmatic starship, Miller learns the wormhole technology opened a portal to Hell, causing the crew to kill themselves. Not only that, the entire vessel has gained sentience, allowing it to control the ship and plague its inhabitants with hallucinations. After being tormented by visions, Weir goes insane and tries to activate the Event Horizon to send Miller's team to Hell.

Just before the wormhole is opened, Miller detonates a bomb, separating the ship in two. Since Miller is on the section with the Event Horizon, he is sent to Hell through the wormhole. Luckily, his crew are on the other section, allowing them to avoid the same fate.

Or so it seems. When they are found by a rescue party months later, one of the crew members sees visions of Weir. We then see the room's door close by itself, proving the ship is still sentient and intends to continue tormenting the crew.
