12 Movies With Way Happier Endings Than You'd Ever Expect

1. The Shawshank Redemption

The Shawshank Redemption
Columbia Pictures

The Shawshank Redemption tells the story of Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) who is wrongfully imprisoned for murder, and his life in prison which spans across two decades.

From witnessing prison violence, enduring assault and corroborating with the Warden to commit fraud and corruption, the story of Andy's time in jail is both heartbreaking and inspiring.

Not long after the film's second act, proof that Andy is innocent is quashed by the corrupt Warden, and it feels like Andy will never be freed. After his infamous escape, the tables start to turn as the murderous guards and Warden who kept Andy as their pet for years are brought to justice.

Andy flees with the money and identity he amassed while in prison, and later on he reunites with Red (Morgan Freeman); whose parole after forty years in jail seems to sting more than it soothes.

While Andy never got the justice he wanted- he was still seen as a guilty murderer in the eyes of the law, the film does end with him a free man living on a beach in Mexico. His reunion with Red is enough to bring a smile to your face after watching all the horrors that came before it.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
