12 Movies You Didn’t Notice Were About Mental Illness

4. Labyrinth

Labyrinth was always a weird film and the image of David Bowie€™s spandex-wrapped crotch is no doubt one that has haunted many children of the 1980s. Considering it€™s also a Jim Henson creation, it€™s probably not that odd its characters are a jumble of mental disorders. Sarah, despite being 15 years old, has a pretty unhealthy attachment to her toys but it doesn€™t end there. Clearly afflicted with a case of delusional companion syndrome, a disorder in which people believe inanimate objects around them are really alive, she imagines her beloved stuffed toys into existence € though, of course, that might be the least of her problems seeing as the entire film is probably her delusion. David Bowie€™s Goblin King Jareth, meanwhile, displays classic narcissistic tendencies: he€™s abusive, controlling and manipulate not mention he€™s fixated on making a 15 year old girl his goblin wife € but that€™s a whole different ball game.
