You don't get to the top of the acting game without experiencing some disappointment along the way - including when you have an idea of what your work is going to turn out like and it turns out completely differently.

That seems to be the case with Marion Cotillard's time working on The Dark Knight Rises, who received a lot of criticism for the scene depicting the death of her character in Nolan's trilogy-ender. It wasn't her finest acting moment, to say the least, and Cotillard admits that she's a little confused why such a bad take was used:

Sometimes there are failures, and when you see this on screen, you're thinking: 'Why? Why did they keep that take?' But either you blame everyone or nobody. But I thought people overreacted, because it was tough to be identified just with this scene. When I'm doing the best I can to find the authenticity in every character that I'm playing, it's tough to be known just for this scene.

Unfortunately, her experience of the movie is probably now defined by a single odd choice by Nolan in the edit.
