10. Paul McGuigan
Reportedly one of the final contenders in the frame to direct Casino Royale a decade ago, Paul McGuigan is a self-confessed admirer of the Bond franchise and a director with an eclectic filmography to his name, refusing to see himself pigeonholed as his efforts in multiple genres can attest. Currently putting the finishing touches to the upcoming Victor Frankenstein, McGuigan's lack of blockbuster experience would make him a gamble to take the reins of a $100m plus production. Although he has yet to make a truly great movie, McGuigan has certainly made several ambitious and visually strong ones. While The Reckoning and Wicker Park fell flat, Lucky Number Slevin offers plenty of stylish direction and some snappy dialogue amongst the convoluted plot machinations, while Push is an underrated and largely-overlooked entry into the superhero genre. After working primarily in television over the last few years, a solid string of big-screen credits could yet lead him back to 007.
