12 Predictions For "Upcoming" Sequels Ever Being Made

1. Independence Day 3

It's clear from the sequel-baiting end of 2016's Independence Day: Resurgence that a follow-up was always part of the plan, a climactic threequel which would see the humans taking the war to the alien race known as the Harvesters.

In the months leading up to Resurgence's release, both director Roland Emmerich and writer-producer Dean Devlin seemed adamant that Independence Day 3 would get a quick turnaround to fans.

Current Status: Though Resurgence wasn't a box office bomb, it "only" doubled its budget with change to spare, making less than half of the original's $817.4 million gross 20 years prior. Ouch.

How Likely Is It?: Though for a time it seemed like the film could quietly pull a Pacific Rim and sneak a sequel due to its strong box office performance in China, Dean Devlin confirmed earlier this year that no plans are in place. Furthermore, with Disney set to absorb Fox next year, they probably won't see a sequel as a worthwhile investment. 2/10
