12 Reasons 1985 Was The Most Important Movie Year Ever

3. Cyber Sex Was Incredibly Hot

If someone made a film today about two geeks 3D printing a sex droid and taking it in the shower, it would screen at Cannes and nobody else in the world would see it. Or it would star Adam Sandler, and even fewer would see it. But in 1985, before the Internet put porn at the end of every finger tip, John Hughes introduced every teenager with a computer and no social skills to Kelly Le Brook and made her an attainable target. And it wasn€™t grotty or seedy: it was beautiful and irresistible, and hopefully the apparent plans for a remake will disappear without a trace. Seriously, in 1985, John Hughes had three films out and they were all legitimately brilliant. Weird Science is like a cultural phenomenon in its own right, but so too is The Breakfast Club - both of which he directed. The third was European Vacation, and while it€™s never been recognised in the same band as the other two, Hughes€™ brain was also full of Pretty In Pink, Some Kind Of Wonderful and Ferris Bueller€™s Day Off at the time. So he gets a pass (plus he only wrote it).
