12 Reasons Movies Were Better When You Were Younger
4. The Power Of Nostalgia
Perhaps more so than youngsters having low standards or everything feeling fresh to them, one cannot discount the overwhelming power of nostalgia .As a kid, a movie will sink its hooks into you, and despite your better critical faculties as an adult telling you otherwise, you can't help but have a soft spot for movies like Space Jam and Casper which, believe it or not, were critically slammed upon release. Comparing the feeling that those movies evoked from you as a youngster with the usually less-enthusiastic enjoyment you feel as an adult from any new movie really isn't very fair, because nostalgia doesn't merely rose-tint the past, it can mythologise it in ways that current projects simply cannot live up to. This combines with many of the aforementioned factors to explain why an affection for the films of your youth might be an act of self-deception.
