Perhaps more so than youngsters having low standards or everything feeling fresh to them, one cannot discount the overwhelming power of nostalgia .As a kid, a movie will sink its hooks into you, and despite your better critical faculties as an adult telling you otherwise, you can't help but have a soft spot for movies like Space Jam and Casper which, believe it or not, were critically slammed upon release. Comparing the feeling that those movies evoked from you as a youngster with the usually less-enthusiastic enjoyment you feel as an adult from any new movie really isn't very fair, because nostalgia doesn't merely rose-tint the past, it can mythologise it in ways that current projects simply cannot live up to.
