12 Reasons Why Justice League Is Worse Than Batman V Superman
8. It Drops All The Interesting Themes From The Last Movie
Batman v Superman's dark themes were contentious when the film released back in 2016. Casting Batman as a violent vigilante who brands his victims and happily uses machine guns to murder criminals caused an outcry amongst longtime fans of the Caped Crusader, while Superman's position as a potential tyrant responsible for needless destruction and collateral damage was viewed as getting the ethos of the character entirely wrong.
However, while you could argue that these ideas were pretty naff, they at least gave the film some substance. The opening scene that sees Bruce Wayne watching Superman and Zod crashing through Metropolis and putting civilian lives in danger is suitably harrowing, while Batman's extreme methods go a long way to show just how jaded and apathetic this version of the The Dark Knight has become in his old age.
In the case of Justice League though, there's nothing for fans to chew on at all. There are no underlying themes to latch onto and discuss, and all this material from the previous film is dropped in favour of a basic good guys vs. bad guys tale. What you see is what you get, which makes for an instantly forgettable cinematic experience.
