12 Recent Movie Sequels That Outrageously Ruined Great Characters

9. Incredibles 2 - Bob Parr

Agent Smith Matrix
Pixar

Pixar sequels have often been good films, but bad sequels. Taken on their own terms they're solid movies, but many have failed to move the story along in a particularly meaningful way and also actively regress the characters of the first film. Aside from the second and third Toy Story films, most of the Pixar sequels have fallen into this category.

Take how Incredibles 2 treated Bob Parr (Craig T Nelson). The first movie is all about Bob learning to move past his longing for the glory days of being a superhero and focus on his family and by the end, he seems to have overcome his mid-life crisis and learned to live in the moment. It's a beautifully written character arc, one of the very best in Pixar's library.

Incredibles 2, on the other hand, completely regresses Bob.

Once again, he's longing for the glory days and eager to be Mr Incredible, and he suddenly seems to be completely incapable of looking after the children on his own even though he was perfectly fine at that in the original.

Worse still, Bob honestly came off as kind of unlikable when he was getting resentful and jealous about his wife being allowed to go out and do superhero work again.
