6. Crazy Rich Asians
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 91% (7.64/10)
Critics really dug Crazy Rich Asians, which despite its frothy exterior was nevertheless widely praised for its proud on-screen representation, its killer ensemble cast and its uncommonly tantalising visuals for the rom-com genre.
The adaptation of Kevin Kwan's hit novel did at least land itself Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture and Best Actress (Constance Wu) in the Musical or Comedy category, but the more "discerning" Academy clearly found Green Book's facile treatment of racial identity far more palatable.
Now, this isn't to say that Crazy Rich Asians should've necessarily been a Best Picture nominee, but simply that it underlines the absurdity of a film as tepid as Green Book winning the Big One.
When shameless fluff has you beaten with the critics, you've got no business winning a Best Picture Oscar.
