4. The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Yes, the movie that Spielberg famously broke his usually strict no sequels edict for is often used as evidence that the director should have stuck to that formula—even by this very writer in earlier articles. But as flawed as The Lost World is, when taken as a standalone adventure and not a follow up to 1993’s iconic original, it’s a solid enough flick which really only suffers due to existing in the oversized shadow of the franchise’s first film.
Consider the recent Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, which would have had an inexplicable cloning subplot and some disbelief-destroying-ly cartoony villains even if Jurassic World hadn’t been an enjoyable slice of blockbuster mayhem. Whereas The Lost World has a fantastic Pete Postelwairthe performance, those chilling sequences with the tiny dinosaurs ganging up on a hammy Peter Stormare, and a T Rex roaming through suburbia—What more could you ask for?
