12 Sci-Fi Movies That Got The Future SCARILY Right

11. Hackers - VR Gaming

Hackers wasn't exactly the most realistic depiction of the titular subculture, but has endured for over two decades as a cult classic based largely on Angelina Jolie's awful hairdo and the overwhelming cheese factor alone.

About as 90s as it gets in both the fashion and approach to the recent rise in computer-based expertise, Hackers may have favored entertainment over any sort of realism, but it did at least manage to predict that virtual reality gaming would eventually become commonplace, and the headset even looks more than a little like an Oculus Rift.

Although you might not even consider the movie as science fiction, the genre is defined as being 'imagined scientific or technological advances and major social or environmental changes', so when it came to people strapping on a headset to fully immerse themselves in a video game, it most definitely fits the criteria.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
