As a whole the 1995 Sandra Bullock vehicle hasn't aged particularly well, and that extends right down to the title of the movie itself, but one thing that the tepid thriller managed to get right was the idea of people having their identities stolen by nefarious internet users.

Identity theft is one of the most common crimes in today's technology-reliant world, and while we've long moved past the point of sending our details to a fictional Nigerian prince in the hope that it'll get us rich quick, scammers are constantly preying on the more vulnerable members of society on an almost daily basis.

Bullock's character also orders pizza online so the movie's predictions aren't all doom and gloom, but despite how dated it looks now, The Net still ended up being ahead of its time when it came to figuring out that the rapid expansion of the internet would inevitably have dire consequences for some people.
