The Ending

At the end of Species, despite the fact that raunchy alien Sil and her evil offspring are destroyed, their legacy lives on in the form of a rat, which is seen feeding on one of her severed tentacles and then mutating and attacking another rat, as if possessed.

Surely this would set up a sequel in which a rat monster was going to terrorise everyone?

But Then...

Well, no actually, because the sequel completely ignores the rat infection and skips ahead three years to tell the story of an infection that unwittingly happens on a mission to Mars and a clone of original alien villain Sil who has been genetically subdued to not want to have sex with and murder everyone.

There is absolutely no mention of any killer rat monsters to speak of, disappointingly. It might have been a better movie if there had been...
