10. The Train

Background: A Ridley Scott-directed dystopian horror film billed as a combination of his greatest works - 1979's Alien and 1982's Blade Runner. The film's storyline was set to revolve around passengers trapped on a futuristic underground train alongside a crazed genetically-engineered monster. The film would also mark the first time since Alien that Scott had worked with artist and Xenomorph designer H.R. Giger.

Why It Didn't Happen: After numerous creative differences with production company Carolco, Scott left the project and his attempts to find a new studio proved fruitless.

The film, now called Isobar, looked set to finally be produced during the 1990s with Sylvester Stallone and Kim Basinger attached to star and Roland Emmerich to direct but it never surfaced and has been stuck in development hell ever since.

Will It Ever Happen? Maybe. Despite the initial idea being almost 40 years old, there were still rumours of production starting as recently as 2006. However, given that Giger sadly passed away in 2014, it will certainly not be as Scott had originally intended.

Thankfully, Scott and Geiger did get the opportunity to work together again on 2012's Prometheus and his original train design (pictured above) was featured in 1995's Species.
