4. J. Michael Straczynski's Reboot Of Star Trek
After J. Michael Straczynski delivered his five-year sci-fi epic Babylon 5, he had a vision of another five year mission; Star Trek. Together with Bryce Zabel, the creator of Dark Skies, he pitched a reboot of Star Trek back in 2004 that would have returned to the adventures of Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the rest of the crew of the USS Enterprise. Like a familiar Star Trek film franchise that rebooted a few years later, this Star Trek was a re-imagining of the show for a modern audience, Unlike JJ Abram's Star Trek in 2009, Straczynski and Zabel's Star Trek did not act as a sequel/prequel to what had come before; instead Star Trek: The Original Series through to Star Trek: Enterprise was referred to universe A, with this new reboot a universe B. This show would have followed the five year-mission of the USS Enterprise, with a mix of fresh stories, new takes on classic stories and an on-going arc which would have seen crew searching for a mysterious alien race that had seeded the galaxy. This Star Trek might have been everything we were looking for in the new film series, though it was never to be as Paramount balked at the idea.
