Sooner or later Marvel will take the brave step (much braver in their own eyes than any audiences') of announcing a female lead superhero movie, and all hints seem to suggest that it would be Carol Danvers who would get the title slot. The Evidence: If speculation were real evidence, a Ms Marvel movie would already be greenlit, but Marvel are so-far still tight-lipped on the possibility. Nevertheless, hints have emerged that they are in the process of at least formatively making a female-lead superhero movie, as Natalie Portman told SciFiNow:
There are definitely many strong women , but it will be exciting when there is a central female character which I think is coming I have heard is coming and, of course, also a central non-white character will also be exciting. Title characters."
Quite where she heard it from remains to be seen, but it's not likely that said movie will focus on Black Widow, as Kevin Feige all but ruled that out, in conversation with Badass Digest:
Frankly, if we do a Black Widow movie after "Age of Ultron," when shes been central in three or four movies I dont think wed get the quote unquote credit for it. People would say Shes already a big giant superhero! But if we had a great idea, wed do it.
He then intriguingly also mentioned that Marvel have discussed Carol Danvers as the possibility: Weve talked a lot about . I think that would be very cool. It's dangerous to read Feige's comments at face value, but he spoke with the same excitement about Doctor Strange, and that's been optioned, so a smart bet would suggest he'll follow suit with Captain or Ms Marvel.
