12 Superhero Movie Romances That Actually Didn't Suck
7. Peter Parker & Gwen Stacy (The Amazing Spider-Man)
Before you start raising the pitchforks, hear us out here. As much as the Marc Webb Spider-Man movies stink - and they really do stink - the romance between Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) was always the best and most convincing aspect.
If the Sam Raimi movies leaned way too hard on the treacly, sentimental dynamic between Tobey Maguire's Parker and Kirsten Dunst's MJ - which was fatally doomed across three films by their patent lack of chemistry - Garfield and Stone's relationship felt much more real.
It certainly helped that the pair became an item in real life, and you can sense every drop of that attraction on-screen. It's a shame the movies they were surrounded by turned out so forgettable, but at least Webb nailed the hell out of Gwen's death scene in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
It's likely that the MCU's Peter-MJ romance will supersede this in due course, but it will nevertheless remain the single purely successful element of two totally mediocre movies.
