12 Terrible Early Concepts That Almost Ruined Iconic Heroes

4. Edward Cullen Could've Been A Sparkly Blade

Edward Cullen is the much-loved, sparkling, charming, polite and determined vampire from the Twilight series. Despite being a vampire, he is the protagonist of the series and something of a hero. He is very protective of the human character Bella and puts her humanity, safety and welfare before anything else. However, he was going to be something very different in the novels which, in turn, would have changed his movie depiction in a big way. He was originally drafted as someone with wicked martial arts skills who would take down vampire-hunting SWAT teams as he stalked them from the treetops. Essentially, he would have been Blade... with sparkles. Granted, to some people, Edward Cullen isn't their cup of tea in his current guise (lots of people actually hate him), but there's no arguing that the character has been a massive success. Had he been a poncey Blade rip-off, it would surely have been a completely different story.
