12 Terrible Early Concepts That Almost Ruined Iconic Heroes

3. Spider-Man Could've Been Spoiled In The 80s & Could've Looked Very Different Quite Recently

The outlook of the Spider-Man character, in terms of his movie portrayal, could have been very different on more than one occasion. As the art above shows, he was originally drafted very differently for the recent Amazing Spider-Man franchise, for example. The costume itself was very different to the classic comic book Spider-Man outfit and the strange cape like feature made from webbing was just bizarre. All things considered, the one Andrew Garfield ended up wearing was much better than the potential costume he could have worn based on that draft. And then you look at what might have happened in the 1980s... Had Cannon Films had their way, Spider-Man could have been cinematically ruined for everyone forever. Cousins Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus were at Cannon's helm and they had the rights to Spider-Man - but they knew nothing about the source material. They initially intended to make it in to a weird monster movie in which Spider-Man was turned into an eight-legged tarantula. After being convinced out of that idea, they wanted to change Spider-Man's origins so that he was inadvertently transformed by an evil scientist named Dr. Zork who created mutants. Peter Parker would have been a lowly employee of Zork's, who accidentally got turned into Spider-Man and then had to fight Zork's army of mutants. Here is the trailer that was made for the movie which, thankfully, didn't happen... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_0-hbSFRN8 We can surely all agree that the Spider-Man movies that have actually been made are considerably better than this would have been.
