12 Terrible Recent Movies Destined To Become Cult Classics

8. Dirty Grandpa

Gods Of Egypt
Lionsgate

Why It's Terrible: Robert De Niro has been in the "zero f*cks given" phase of his career for quite some time now, and there's arguably no greater proof of that than this movie, where he's being paid to goof off and bro-out with Zac Efron while occasionally being straddled by Aubrey Plaza.

It's easy to see why De Niro took the role, but as the old adage goes, the more fun people have making a movie, generally speaking the worse it is. With that in mind, Dirty Grandpa is a bad, bad movie.

Sadly it can't even just embrace its crudeness unapologetically, instead softening the edges with unearned, eye-rolling sentimentality. Horrible.

Why It'll Be A Cult Classic: Especially when the 73-year-old De Niro is no longer with us, expect the reception to this and his other paycheck roles to soften somewhat. After all, it's just a harmless movie about an old guy partying with people one-third his age, right? It'll be regarded as just another phase of his career... albeit a less fruitful one.
