12 Things Disney Want You To Forget About Star Wars

5. Han And Leia's Son Turned Evil

If Chewie's death has been ignored because of how conflicting an event it is, the rise of Darth Caedus is being downplayed for totally different reasons.

In the Legacy Of The Force, a nine-book series set thirty-odd years after Return Of The Jedi (the same period of time as The Force Awakens), Han and Leia's son Jacen turned to the Dark Side, taking on a faux-Sith mantle, killing Luke's wife Mara Jade and plunging the galaxy back into widespread conflict.

With Star Wars so reliant on generations of the Skywalker clan, this was always a logical way for the story to go in either timeline, but it is remarkable just how similar Jacen is to Kylo Ren. Obviously Disney don't want their new films to be accused of being unoriginal (or, even worse, be tied into the geek-friendly EU) and so Jacen is thus one of the biggest ignored EU elements.

Although there may be further purpose for playing this down; at the end of the book series Caedus was killed by his twin sister when it became apparent he was fully irredeemable. Spoilers?
