12 Things In Pixar Movies That Make No Sense
1. Inside Out - A Throwaway Gag Creates An Enormous Plothole
Inside Out takes place in Riley's mind where her personality is maintained by five Core Emotions; Joy, Fear, Anger, Sadness, and Disgust. Near the beginning of the story, Joy and Sadness knock over Riley's Core Memories. Joy tries to pick them up but accidentally causes herself, Sadness, and the Core Memories to fall out of Headquarters and get transported to the long-term memory section of Riley's mind. Joy and Sadness must return to HQ and reinsert her Core Memories before Riley suffers irreversible damage.
On their journey, they bump into two workers who are in charge of Riley’s short-term memories. The workers tell Joy that they sometimes send a random memory up to Headquarters for fun. The workers are admitting they have direct access to HQ, which means Joy and Sadness can return there the same way.
Since the workers send the memory through a thin tube, it’s possible that Joy and Sadness may not fit. If that is the case, Joy could still send the Core Memories through the tube so Anger, Fear, and Disgust can insert them into their designated slots. If this 30-second gag wasn’t in the film, the plothole would have been avoided.
