The Original Plan: A third Ghostbusters movie had been in the works for decades before it finally came to fruition, and part of the original plan was always to have Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson reprise their parts for a straight-up sequel.

What Happened?: However, Murray was infamously non-committal about signing on, even reportedly shredding one version of the script and bluntly rejecting others for not being good enough.

Eventually, Murray held out long enough that Ramis died, Ivan Reitman's heart was no longer in it and Sony pursued their all-female reboot instead.

Did It Work?: Well, the film itself isn't actually that bad, but ironically the cameos from Murray are co. are some of the worst parts in it. Also, it bombed at the box office, so if you asked a Sony exec, they'd surely say no.
