In the latter half of the podcast, their conversation naturally led to the discussion of McGowan's feminist activism, and it began with Theroux asking about why her mother was never fully on board with McGowan taking such a powerful stance against Hollywood’s misogyny, especially as a high-profile woman. She herself sees this lack of support as actually being a rather natural stance that a lot of the older and more conservative generations of women have in her life.

They then touched on the group of 100 French actresses who signed an open letter back in early 2018 against McGowan and the anti-abuse campaign that was rising out of Hollywood. According to French actress Catherine Deneuve, the movement would go on to create over-censorship and the intolerance of men in the film industry, resulting in a lot of men feeling unfairly inhibited within the workplace.

McGowan’s thoughts on this were surprisingly empathetic - she claims that their reaction was a result of them feeling overwhelmed with the magnitude of what was at stake, and that “if they were to look back on their lives, they would freak out by the amount of crap they endured.”
