12 Things You Learn Rewatching Avengers: Endgame

10. Thanos' Principles

Every villain is the good guy in their own story. While the antagonists of the MCU have vastly different motivations across the board, from money to power to glory, Thanos was different. His goal was genuinely to save the universe, and there wasn't an ounce of selfishness there.

He once claimed that when his job was done, he would simply sit back and watch the sun rise over a grateful universe. This he managed, but he went further than that. He took even more steps to make sure that he wouldn't ever do more with his power than his one goal.

After using the Infinity Stones to correct the universe, he used them once more to destroy each of them, removing any and all temptation to use them again. This was, in a strange way, very commendable, and showed that Thanos had principles that he would stick by no matter what.

It wasn't until 'What If...?' on Disney+ that this move can truly be appreciated. With the stones, Thanos could have literally become a god, with the ability to move through the multiverse and control anything and everything he wanted, like Ultron did in another universe. Instead, he was content with saving his own universe and living a quiet life of solitude on the Garden. This simply cemented Thanos' legacy as the greatest villainous character ever to grace the MCU.
