12 Things You Learn Rewatching Diamonds Are Forever

5. A Black Woman Turns Into A Gorilla...Because Reasons

This moment is so fleeting it's easily forgotten about, but to contemporary audiences, it seems extremely "problematic", shall we say. During Bond's trip to Vegas, we're briefly introduced to a side-show starring Zambora, an African woman who was apparently part of a cruel experiment.

As Tiffany goes to watch the show, we see Zambora, a black woman imprisoned within a cage, and after a man presses some buttons, she transforms into a giant gorilla.

Sure, it's a show and the implication is very clear that a switcharoo is performed between the actress and a person inside a gorilla costume, but still, given the long-standing racist implications of comparing a black person to a gorilla, it's pretty eyebrow-raising these days.

More than anything, did this actually add anything to the film at all?
