12 Things You Learn Rewatching Die Another Day
9. Halle Berry Is Completely Wasted As Jinx
It's easy to see why the filmmakers sought out Halle Berry to play Bond girl Jinx: she was courting plenty of awards buzz for her eventually Oscar-winning performance in Monster's Ball, which combined with her role in X-Men suggested she was a budding mega-star with a storied career ahead of her.
Though Berry's post-Oscar career has been disappointingly scatty, there's no denying her acting chops when gifted the right role...which is exactly what the part of Jinx was not.
The producers just assumed that because Berry was a capable actress who looked great in a bikini that she'd be a great fit for a Bond girl. Ultimately, her sexual chemistry with Pierce Brosnan is virtually non-existent, she's given surprisingly little to do action-wise, and has to have her bacon saved by 007 far more than you'd hope for.
They really had a chance to strike gold here with such a prestige talent agreeing to play a Bond girl, but ultimately Jinx is about as forgettable and uninteresting as they come.
