9. Timothy Dalton Delivers A Brilliantly Callous Bond

Timothy Dalton remains a fairly divisive Bond among fans, and though his performance in this movie probably won't sway anyone who wasn't already sold in The Living Daylights, the film did give Dalton the floor to deliver easily the most caustic and intense Bond portrayal to date.

This version of Bond isn't particularly fussed about being suave and charming: he's p***ed off and wants revenge for what happened to Felix and Della, and basically goes on a murderous rampage over the course of this film.

Never has 007 been this callous, threatening both of the Bond girls for information - holding Lupe at knife-point and pointing a gun at Pam Bouvier (Carey Lowell) - which quite perfectly reflects the fact that Bond's never dealt with an antagonist this ruthless before.

Many have criticised the film and Dalton's portrayal for straying too far from the popular cinematic conception of the character. For those bored with the formula of the series up to this point, though, it was an interesting experiment, albeit one that was sadly short-lived with this being Dalton's final Bond movie.
