6. The Love Triangle Subplot Is Hilariously Bad

There's no sugar-coating it: the Bond girls in this movie are a bit, well, rubbish, and it does them no favours that they're forced into a melodramatic love triangle subplot with 007.

First up we have Lupe Lamora, Sanchez's girlfriend and domestic abuse victim who inevitably falls for Bond's charms. She appears to be the main Bond girl at first, but basically drops out of the movie by the mid-way point.

Though the spunky Pam Bouvier is decidedly more appealing from the outset, what with her ability to actually handle herself and her refusal to take any of Bond's s***, Carey Lowell's wonky performance and her over-eagerness to slip into bed with James ring rather false.

The third act places a weird focus on Bond having to choose between the two women, concluding with Bond awkwardly picking Pam while a gormless Lupe looks on. As written, directed and performed, it doesn't work at all, and is by far the most ill-advised and unnecessary element of the entire movie.
