4. The Alpine Action Sequences Are Still Incredible
Easily one of the film's most standout and best-aged elements is its terrifically thrilling snow-topped third act action sequences. Hunt, having edited all five prior Bond movies and worked as second unit director on You Only Live Twice, was in perfect stead to finally get behind the camera, and what a splendid job he did.
The dynamic editing and more sparing use of rear projection compositing gives the action a more visceral realism, with the ski chase, car chase, climactic shootout and final bobsled chase all distinguishing themselves firmly from one another with memorable action beats.
While it would've been easy for the film to over-indulge in its snowy action - remember Thunderball's lethargic, water-obsessed set-pieces? - these sequences manage to be kinetic in a way no prior Bond film had achieved, and are still a joy to watch today.
