6. Silva Gets The Best Villain Introduction In The Series
It's honestly quite surprising that, considering how iconic some of the Bond villains have been over the decades, so few of them have memorable introductions that actually stick in the mind.
Easy it was, then, for Silva to blow them all away when he shows up half-way through the movie after Bond is brought to his hideout on an abandoned island. Mendes masterfully decides to shoot Silva's arrival in a long-take wide shot, allowing both Bond and the viewer to soak in his slow, gradual approach.
It doesn't hurt that Bardem was a terrific choice to play the baddie, bringing some unhinged playfulness to the table and basically apologising for the utter void of charisma left by Mathieu Amalric in Quantum of Solace.
It's a pretty damn simple introduction, amounting to no more than Bond and Silva talking in a room, but thanks to creative camerawork, some cracking dialogue and Bardem's phenomenal performance, it's one of the best scenes in the entire film.
